After all the blood had been spilled and the tears had been shed, the battle finally came to a close. The last drop of sweat fell from my brow, and I fell to my knees. I wanted to shout for joy, but my body was rooted to the spot, still in shock from the whole ordeal. I felt such relief, I couldn’t put it into words or even form a coherent thought. A lone tear slipped from my eye and one word left my lips…

“Onee-chan”

I spoke in a whisper. I allowed myself to smile, happy that I could finally return to my life. The shard was no longer my life force, and Naraku could no longer control me.

I searched for her amidst the ruble, and saw her with her companions staring at the spot where the girl from the future, Kagome had disappeared and Inuyasha re-appeared alone. I joined them, and took my spot by her side.

She turned to me and sobbed into my shoulder and said

“It’s over. It’s really over Kohaku. We can be a family again” she said with a weak smile.

I returned the gesture, and patted her soothingly. I knew the next few months would be difficult to re-adjust for all involved, but I’m just glad to be able to have my life back.
