Asking for help has never been an easy thing for me to do. I’ve always studied and received top grades, but I knew if I didn’t get help, I would end up with a failing grade, and that was not acceptable.
I sought him out after my classes for the day, and found him in the library. I approached him and asked if I might have a word. He seemed bemused, but followed me. I took him aside and began to explain my issue.
“So, you want me to help you with flying?” he asked with a grin on his face.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to. I just need this grade and I didn’t know who else to ask because the boys….,” he cut me off.
“It’s alright, I don’t mind. Meet me at the Quidditch field just after dark” he said before walking off.
I smiled in relief and left for my room to get ready for the evening.
--------------
After doing my homework, and when everyone was getting ready for bed, I left the room as quietly as I could, hoping to go undetected.
I arrived, and he was standing there already waiting for me.
First we went over commanding our brooms. It took me awhile, and it frustrated me to no end, but I finally achieved it after many failed attempts and laughter from Cedric.
After that we practiced gliding. I fell off my first few tries, but each time he helped me back up, and we kept trying until I got it right.
Finally, we attempted flight. A couple times he had to come to my rescue because I would lose control over my broom, but I managed to eventually get it right. It still wasn’t perfect, and I still needed practice, but I would work on it.
He bid me good night, and turned to walk away. I felt my heart thump. I finally understand why all the girls swoon over him.
“Hermione?” he called after me.
“Yes?”
“Might you possibly need help again? You know, practice makes perfect” he said with a smile.
“It would be much appreciated” I responded.
His lips pressed against my cheek with the promise to meet me again tomorrow night.
