Title: Goodbye Bells
Author: browneyedmami
Fandom: Twilight
Characters/Pairings: Bella/Charlie, Edward/Bella, Alice
Genre: Angst
Summary: Bella returns to Forks for one final goodbye.
We had just gotten back from hunting when Alice had her vision. Charlie was dying. I didn’t know what to feel. Most of my human memories were still intact, so I remember who he was and what he meant to me. If I could have cried, I think I might have.
I decided then to make my last trip to Forks. I knew I wouldn’t be able to attend the funeral, but maybe I could get a chance to say goodbye. Alice, Edward and I were on a plane within the hour.
When we arrived, we had to sort of hide ourselves in the crowds, so as not to be recognized by any familiar faces. I think I may have seen Mike Newton’s face, but I ignored it.
I dashed to the hospital where my dad was being treated. It was late, and I was sure visiting hours were over, but I didn’t care. According to Alice, he only had hours left to live and I needed to say goodbye.
I did my best to remain inconspicuous and made it to his room. No one was nearby, so I stepped on in. He was hooked to a lot of different machines and the smell of his blood filled the room. It was a horrid sight for me to see. He appeared to be asleep, so I decided not to wake him and just sat there waiting.
I didn’t have to wait long before he opened his eyes. He looked around the room and finally spotted me.
“Bells…is that you?” He asked.
“Yes, dad its really me.”
He furrowed his brows in confusion, most likely thinking I was an illusion. I got up from my chair and walked to him and place my hand in his.
“You’re very cold” he said.
“Yes….I know you said you didn’t want to know everything….but…”
He cut me off and said
“It’s okay Bells. I kinda figured it out on my own. Don’t worry I haven’t spoken to anyone on my theory.”
“So you know what I….you know that I’m a….”
“Yes, I know that you are a vampire.”
“Does mom know?”
“No. I told you I never told anyone.”
“Oh dad!” I dry sobbed and hugged his soft form.
“Bells, I don’t have much time left, but I want you to know that I love you….and that Edward is a great man. May he continue to take care of you in the way you deserve…”
“I love you too dad”
One last look into his eyes, and he was gone. I really wish I could cry. I knew it was going to happen, but I just couldn’t believe it.
Edward came into the room before the nurses could come in to pronounce him dead. I protested at first, thinking he would suddenly wake up again, even though I knew he wouldn’t. Edward effortlessly lifted me bridal style and carried me out the hospital.
Alice was waiting outside with a car.
“I’m so sorry sweetie. We all loved him…” she said while stretching her arms out for a hug that I gladly accepted.
We all climbed into the car and drove back to the old house. It looked just about the same. We decided to stay there until the funeral was over.
The days passed, and the funeral came and went. I didn’t see the service, but later at night, went to his gravesite to give my final goodbye. I left a single flower, and promised to come back once each year with a fresh flower.
“Goodbye dad” I said taking one last look at the grave.
I sped away from the site, and I could’ve sworn I heard his voice whispering in the wind and saying
