Summary: What Draco says isn't always what he means.
“You ugly mudblood!”
Even as the words came out of his mouth, he couldn’t make himself actually believe them. Truthfully, she was the most beautiful girl he’d come across in his few years on this earth, not to mention one of the smartest. As for the mudblood part, well yeah she was Muggle born, but you’d never tell by looking at her or talking to her.
Maybe if he hadn’t been born into such a prejudice family, or maybe if she had been sorted into Slytherin they might have had a chance. But damn the fates she would never be a Slytherin and she would always be Muggle born.
The smiles she gave the red haired one made him sick, but in that moment after the horrid words he had just uttered, she threw him one and somehow it made him feel ridiculously exposed. It was as if she knew his secret, knew that he fancied her. And just when he started to tentatively smile back, the red haired one wrapped his arms around her, and his friends dragged him away; and he couldn’t help but damn the fates again wondering what may had transpired if not for the interference.
